Social and Emotional Learning

We believe that character development is just as important as academic achievement. Through our social and emotional learning curriculum, a nationally recognized Global Studies program, and service learning taught throughout the school, our students are learning to grow beyond themselves and develop their capacity for compassion and empathy for others.
What Is Social and Emotional Learning?
Children need to be emotionally and socially centered in their community so they feel safe to make mistakes and take risks. We use the Positive Discipline method as a school-wide program, along with other complementary, age-specific social-emotional curricula to help students become as capable socially and emotionally as they are academically.
We focus on five areas of social-emotional growth and development:
- Self-awareness
- Self-management
- Social Awareness
- Relationship and Communication Skills
- Responsible Decision-making Behaviors
