Head of School

Welcome to The Evergreen School! We are so glad that you have found us and are spending some time getting to know this unique learning community. Both as head of school and as a parent of two Evergreen alums, I am so proud to be part of this incredible school.

At the heart of our learning community are our amazing students. Each year our classrooms are filled with these curious and creative students who are constantly asking, “Why?” Our students immediately sense that this is a place where their passionate interests will be supported and celebrated. Whether your child is a voracious reader, a “mathlete” in waiting, a budding artist, or an inquisitive investigator, this school is a community of highly capable students who are looking to learn alongside other engaged students.

At Evergreen, we value intellectual depth and complexity. Yes, our students achieve at a very high academic level but we recognize that fully engaging with ideas in an immersive fashion further stokes curiosity and lends itself to lifelong learning. Utilizing a student centered approach with their teachers coaching along the way, learning becomes an exploration that allows students to pursue passions and interests, to strive to answer the “why,” and thus make personal meaning of the complex topics.

The learning and community experience at Evergreen takes place within the caring culture of the school. It is a culture born out of our Core Values, the importance placed on Social Emotional Learning (SEL), and the community’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB). The culture of the school respects different perspectives, encourages healthy risk taking, celebrates growth, and asks everyone to consider and care for others. It is a culture based on respect for each individual.

Our goal is to graduate collaborative, confident, self-aware, compassionate, and curious students who can be successful wherever their learning takes them in high school and beyond. Our students will be well prepared for the future because of their involvement in Evergreen’s program that values the whole child, that infuses social-emotional learning and DEIB work throughout the curriculum, and an educational approach that cultivates their innate curiosity and creativity.

Collectively, we thank you for your interest in Evergreen, and we look forward to future conversations with you about your student and our special learning community.

Sincerely,
Halsey Bell
