Financial Aid
Overview
In the 2024-2025 school year, Evergreen awarded $1.87 million in financial assistance, supporting 14% of our student body and covering an average of 67% of tuition. Every family's situation is different. If you feel that your family cannot afford to pay the full cost of tuition, consider applying for financial aid.
In addition, families who receive financial aid covering 95% or more of tuition also receive funds to cover any additional expenses at school, including back-to-school supplies, school pictures, book fair purchases, tickets to optional Evergreen family outings such as Mariners games or ice skating.
Financial Aid Application Deadline: February 6, 2025
Applications must be complete and received by the deadline to ensure full consideration.
How We Determine Financial Aid
Evergreen uses a third party, Clarity Financial Aid, to determine a family’s level of financial need based on the information families share in the application, including assets, income, expenses, and debts.
To get started, please go to the Clarity Application and create an account. The application typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete. The Clarity Application is also mobile-friendly so you can complete it from anywhere. You are able to save your progress and return at any time. At the end of the application, there is a $60 fee to submit, and you can share your application with additional schools that accept the Clarity Application for no additional charge. Simply use the dropdown menu in the application to select those schools.
Please remember to return to your dashboard after you complete and submit your Clarity Application, as financial documentation such as W-2s, tax returns, etc. is used to determine a family's ability to contribute towards educational expenses. If a family qualifies for aid, an award is determined by the Financial Aid Committee.
How to Apply
- We use Clarity for financial aid applications. Click at right to begin.
- All families receiving aid must re-apply each year, by submitting the online application to Clarity.
- You only need to complete one application per family, even if you have several children at Evergreen.
- The Evergreen School requires each application for financial aid (for the 2025-2026 school year) to be supported by the household's 2023 federal tax return. (Follow the instructions in the Clarity application to upload forms).

Financial Aid FAQ
Who is eligible?
Families with students enrolling in preschool through 8th grade may apply.
What are some of the factors in making a financial aid decision?
In addition to each family's overall financial picture, the Financial Aid Committee takes into account the amount of aid available in a given year's budget and the number of families applying for aid.
Factors considered include:
- Tax returns (2023 returns, when applying for the 2025-2026 school year) and W-2 forms.
- Retirement contributions in excess of 5% of gross income will be counted as non-taxable income.
- Equity in any residences will be counted as an asset.
- Tuition at other schools: If there are siblings in other independent schools (in prekindergarten through 12th grade), tuition paid at the other schools will be considered in determining the family's contribution.
- Non-working parent/guardian: Private education is a family commitment requiring the contributions of all parents/guardians. When all children in the household are in kindergarten or above, income will be imputed for a non-working parent/guardian at the level of Washington State minimum wage in calculating the family's gross income. The Financial Aid Committee may waive this imputation if there is disability involved of either the non-working parent/guardian or of a household member requiring a custodial role.
- Income and disclosure: Parents/guardians are expected to provide full disclosure of all assets and income sources when completing the financial aid application. These resources include funds from relatives or friends, limited partnerships, assets of a closely held corporation, or any other income-producing enterprise. The Evergreen School considers parent/guardian signatures on the Clarity form and the financial aid notification letter to signify full disclosure of all financial resources. Lack of full disclosure may result in the invalidation and withdrawal of a financial aid award.
What about separated or divorced parents/guardians?
For separated or divorced families, both parents/guardians must submit applications. It is The Evergreen School's position that separated or divorced parents/guardians are obligated to contribute to the educational expenses of their child(ren), regardless of the terms stipulated in any existing legal agreements. If either parent has remarried, we will also consider the assets of the step-parent(s), keeping in mind the financial obligations the step-parent(s) may have to other legal dependents.
We calculate financial aid awards based on what Clarity and our own process review determine each family can afford. In some instances this may be an amount less than a court's decision in a divorce settlement; in others, more. The Financial Aid Committee will consider the assets of both natural parents/guardians, if living, before making any award, and cannot be held by the assertion that one parent has disclaimed responsibility for educational expenses.
When are financial aid decisions made?
- For students currently attending The Evergreen School, award notifications are sent in mid-February for the following school year.
- For students newly admitted to The Evergreen School, award notifications will be sent with the applicant’s acceptance letter (in mid-March).
Should I apply for financial aid?
Each family's financial circumstances are unique. Since there are many factors that determine financial aid eligibility, it is important to complete the full financial aid application process if you are interested in financial aid.
If you have questions specific to your family's finances, do not hesitate to contact our CFO Duncan Linn at [email protected].
Can current families not receiving aid apply for the following year?
We expect that families who join The Evergreen School paying full tuition will continue to do so. However, when unexpected circumstances lead to a significant change in income, families are welcome to apply for aid and encouraged to contact our CFO Duncan Linn directly: [email protected].
Do I have to reapply for financial aid each year?
Yes. Each year a family must reapply for financial aid by the stated deadlines in order for a new award to be considered.
Can I appeal for an adjustment to the amount of aid awarded?
If you are concerned that the amount of aid you've been awarded is insufficient, you may contact CFO Duncan Linn at [email protected] to discuss the steps of the appeals process. You may be asked to submit additional documentation demonstrating why the award will not make it possible for you to enroll your child(ren) at Evergreen. While all appeals will be considered and reviewed by the Financial Aid Commitee, awards will not necessarily be adjusted.
