Adventure Days at Evergreen
February 27th, 2024
Always a highlight of the year for our older students, Adventure Days gives Evergreen 6th, 7th and 8th graders an opportunity to pursue a passion project and try something new—all while working to handle the inevitable challenges that arise along the way. The last two days before Midwinter Break saw a frenzy of activity throughout the middle school, as students spent two days as video editors, bakers, fabric artists, programmers, taxidermists, topographical map makers, builders, 3-D artists, resin creators and many more!
While it's exciting to embark on a new project, Adventure Days is about more than that. Like so much at Evergreen, the process is key, and learning to work through a sustained, dynamic process is part of the aim. The process begins weeks earlier, with project proposals, supply lists, and draft revisions, before any building happens. Once students launch into their two days of project work, they are almost sure to encounter challenges along the way—things that don't go as planned, parts that don't quite fit even though they measured in advance. But it's all part of the experience, and students learn to move ahead, making adjustments, knowing teachers are there to support them throughout. And by the end, they have great work to show ... plus plenty of ideas for next year's Adventure Days!
